Created by Automobili Pininfarina’s in-house family of engineering and manufacturing experts, B95 was conceived, designed and developed in our home country of Italy. It harnesses artisan traditions forged in the birthplace of the exotic car blended with advanced technologies that demonstrate a forward-looking mindset. It is, simply put, a new masterpiece.

B95’s name is derived from ‘B’ for Barchetta and the 95th anniversary of legendary design house Pininfarina SpA. Just ten will be created in Cambiano and each will be individually crafted by its owners. It is a manifestation of PURA design; our philosophy that transforms the DNA of classic models from the company’s past into icons of the future – and is dripping with astonishing features such as adjustable twin aero screens (a patented world-first) inspired by vintage aircraft.

Making its debut at the 2023 Monterey Car Week, B95 is a dramatic interpretation of a classic racer underpinned by pure-electric performance. It is a vehicle that harmonises retro signatures with futuristic flourishes to generate a jaw-dropping and yet elegant silhouette.

Step inside and you’ll experience a vista from the driver’s seat like no other: the dashboard appears to merge with the exterior, extending the distinctive lines of the hood into the cabin. It is a feature also seen on the PURA Vision design concept; the effect being like a floating wing that combined with the full-width enveloping bodywork simultaneously provides a feeling of safety with an unfiltered connection to the outside environment.

“Our PURA design philosophy has purity at its heart,” explains Dave Amantea, Chief Design Officer, Automobili Pininfarina. “It is a hallmark of the timeless designs of iconic vehicles from Pininfarina’s past. The Barchetta silhouette is instantly recognisable, but it was our job to make it beautiful. The mixture of classic proportions and exquisite detailing have allowed us to create something truly special. We’re allowing customers to drive a dream with B95 – something that defines the brand moving forward.”

‘Driving the dream’ was a key factor during the ideation stage of B95; our team were determined to create a vehicle imbued with the fantastical theatre of a show car but one that can actually be driven.

Francesco Cundari, Interior Design Director, Automobili Pininfarina, explains that: “driving the B95 will be an immersive experience like no other. It is the first ever hyper Barchetta and will feel like a cross between driving a modern F1 car and piloting a vintage fighter plane. While putting clients closer to the elements, they will feel really protected – they will feel the embrace of the car.”

Inside, the feeling of a show car is enhanced by the extraordinary textures and materials incorporated into the features. The dashboard is upholstered in Tan Sustainable Luxury Leather with bespoke embossing, which contrasts with brushed black aluminium anodised finishes. The seats, also finished in the Tan Sustainable Luxury Leather, are inspired by classic race cars, and are profiled to cosset the driver and passenger.

Take a close look at the headrests and you’ll see electro-welded Pininfarina logos and a Pied de Poule Houndstooth Luxury Textile. Clients can also order bespoke helmets in a finish coordinated to complement or match their chosen specification.

While each B95 will be unique, this launch edition demonstrates a range of inspiring ideas. The main body is finished in metallic Bronzo Superga, contrasting dramatically to a distinctive Giallo Arneis gloss section at the front and above the driver’s dome where Black Gloss ’95’ lettering is featured. The Bronzo Superga finish is flawless and is mixed with gold metallic flakes to generate an incredible depth. In the daytime, the accents appear gold; at night it takes on a bronze hue, giving the impression of two different colours depending on the time of day.

Amplifying this dramatic contrast is an extensive use of Black Exposed Signature Carbon, which delivers a technical 3D sculptural effect which is most effective around the carbon fibre splitter rear aero outlet.

Contrast is also the key to the new 20″ front and 21″ rear forged aluminium wheels. Finished in Matt Black, you’ll notice the exposed aluminium matt precision-polished outers and black anodized brushed aluminium centre lock rings. The brake calipers are finished in Giallo Arneis, matching the exterior accents.

Sara Campagnolo, Colour and Materials Design Director, Automobili Pininfarina, describes the crafting of B95’s unique combination of materials and finishes for our first coachbuilt car as “an inspiring experience.

“The B95 represents a stunning symbiosis between classic motorsport and ‘retrofuturistic’ design themes,” says Sara. “This allowed us to explore a range of ideas that offer unexpected, delightful contrasts. My team is particularly proud to have sourced and designed the exclusive, sustainable new material for the shoulder and headrest sections of B95’s seats. This ‘houndstooth’ design and exquisite material combination is inspired by the fashion world, elevating the luxurious nature of the B95 cockpit.”

And what of the powertrain? As befitting a car that we’re calling the world’s first hyper Barchetta, the B95 is propelled by a state-of-the-art powertrain featuring a 120 kWh lithium-ion battery generating peak power of 1400 kW (1900 PS). Liquid cooled and nestled safely in a strong and lightweight carbon fibre housing, the pack can be charged using DC fast chargers up to 270kW for a 20-80% top up in just 25 mins.

Four independent high-performance electric motors drive each wheel, with full Torque Vectoring profiles tailored by the Automobili Pininfarina team available across five distinct drive modes: Calma, Pura, Energica, Furiosa and Carattere. Activated via rotary selector located next to the steering wheel, the modes generate sensations and performance tailored to all conditions and preferences and are truly a next step in driving dynamics.

“We’ve selected the latest technology to make it a vehicle people desire to own, as well as a thrilling place to be. The application of technology to create our adjustable aero screens is inspired by two-wheel motor racing – ensuring this is a pioneering road car. This patented new technology enables the pure thrill of open-top driving, yet in comfort even at the high speed that the B95 is capable to reach.”
